 Quality and Accountability in Humanitarian Action - Course Completion:  June 24, 2023

 

In this Ready to Go Mobile Guide, I learned about standard practices to ensure quality and accountable programs for people and communities affected by crisis. This resource provides guidance on how to conduct key activities throughout the project cycle to effectively engage with communities to meet their needs and to ensure protection from sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH) to deliver a more accountable, relevant response. 


Created in collaboration with CHS Alliance, this guide builds on inter-agency best practices from IOM, OCHA Turkey, CHS Alliance, and Sphere, designed for field staff and managers working in humanitarian programming, project management, MEAL, and coordination. This guide can also be helpful for human resources staff to understand what is required of program and MEAL staff to ensure quality and accountability in their work.

 Understanding and Coping with Vicarious Trauma - Course Completion:  June 18, 2023

This course explains how exposure to other people's pain and suffering can challenge and change us. This resource helped me learn more about vicarious trauma and explore the following questions: 

  • What is vicarious trauma? 
  • How do we know when we are experiencing it? 
  • What are common signs?
  • What can help buffer me from experiencing vicarious trauma, and recover when I am impacted?

Human Resources (HR) Toolkit for Small and Medium Nonprofit Actors - Course Completion:  April 1, 2023


This 36-page toolkit provides resources to inform and support the enhancement of a formalized and systematized framework for people management practices in nonprofit, humanitarian and development organizations.

Objectives: 

  • Follow guidance, tips, and checklists to inform the development and/or enhancement of HR policies. 
  • Use a series of questions to reflect and assess existing HR framework (and possible gaps), and identify the required activities and priority actions to strengthen it. 
  • Explore recommended learning resources to address identified gaps

This toolkit was produced by the Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation in collaboration with the CHS Alliance. It is designed for individuals responsible for human resources (HR) functions and activities in nonprofits, and humanitarian and development organizations. This may include HR practitioners, program/operation teams, finance and administration managers, and staff planning/responsible for tactical HR, including anyone tasked to support and implement basic HR systems and framework.
